How Your EITC Contributions to Civic Theatre of Allentown Support Lehigh Valley Youth Through the Arts

by Jason Sizemore

Civic Theatre of Allentown is proud to be an approved EITC (Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program) recipient organization. EITC-approved contributing businesses are eligible to give funding up to $750,000 worth of tax-deductible contributions annually to approved recipient organizations. These businesses are impacting thousands of kids’ lives through various levels of programming and support at Civic Theatre each year. Civic Theatre has four EITC-approved programs to extend our impact and provide excellent arts education in the Lehigh Valley. Impact includes:

A Christmas Carol Mainstage Production This multigenerational production includes an acreage of 80 child actors who perform on stage with veteran adult actors from the community. EITC contributions allow Civic Theatre to offer student matinee performances (complete with subsidized tickets) for school groups to attend A Christmas Carol, inspiring thousands of students to experience live theatre, many for the first time. The vast majority of students who benefit from these reduced-price tickets come from low-income backgrounds.

Civic Theatre School (CTS) & The Spring CTS production Civic’s annual theatre school production brings together students from an average of 20 different area schools. The show is produced on the main stage and allows students to experience all aspects of live theatre: onstage, backstage and beyond. EITC contributions allow this production to take place in a high-quality and professional atmosphere where young actors not only gain theatre experience but, perhaps most importantly, skills for life.

High School Internships/Job Shadowing Program EITC contributions support High School Internships are available in the theatre’s artistic, technical, and administrative areas. Interns have the opportunity to observe and work with the professional Civic production staff on technical aspects such as lights and sound as well as choreography, scenic design, stage management and more. These internships offer hands-on learning and experience for students who aspire to pursue theatre studies. An average of 10 students participate in yearly internships, completing 950+ hours of service.

Literacy Outreach Program Reaching an average of 1600 students during 65 sessions of interactive storytelling, our in-school literacy outreach sparks joy in reading. It engages students in the art of storytelling. EITC funds allow Civic to bring this programming to schools that may not otherwise have the funds to acquire outside services.
